Elvira, Mistress Of The Dark

A goofy, campy, poke at puritanism and a sly wink at a host of horror films, ELVIRA, MISTRESS OF THE DARK is much more fun than it has any right to be. Dreaming of financing her own show in Las Vegas, Elvira leaves Hollywood in her customized Macabremoblie to claim what she thought was an inheritance. However, upon arriving in Fallwell, MA, all she finds is two drooling yokels, an overzealous morality brigade and a creepy great-uncle with more on his mind than long-lost relatives. With her penchant for double entendres and low cut dresses, Elvira scandalizes the town and soon finds herself in danger of being burned at the stake, jeopardizing her chances of ever making it to Vegas.

A distinctly American phenomenon, Elvira (real name Cassandra Peterson) is a camp vampette, an amalgam of Morticia Addams and Dolly Parton, who hosts horror movie nights on television. Graduating to her own feature movie, Peterson is cast as, well, a television horror movie host who inherits a haunted house. Horror buffs may get a kick out of the numerous references to the genre, but the rest of us will be bored by the predictable plot and unimpressed with the shoddy effects. Director James Signorelli seems unable — or, more likely, unwilling — to draw his camera away from Miss Peterson's ample bosom for more than five minutes.

I rented this movie when it first came out not knowing what to expect. Well I've now lost count the amount of times I've seen it. I loved it! It had a story, it was funny. No sex, swearing, smutty jokes (Thats put some of you off!) It is just a nice feel good movie.

    A Classic

Elvira, Mistress of the dark is one of those movies that you will always be in the mood to watch, a real 80's classic. Elvira is a real comedy genius, the one liners she comes out with will have you laughing for ages and stick in you mind for days.

Rent this if you want to watch a funny, camp, mild horror movie that doesn’t take its self serious.

Quote - Elvira: "Revenge is better than Christmas."
