Gloriously OTT... enormously entertaining
Remember him this way
I am going to be 50 years old this year, so I arrived too late to really get into the Elvis thing. Anyway he was singing songs that my Mum and Dad quite liked, and we didn't agree on anything. I myself was more 60's Brit Pop including the Beatles, who are still the very, very best of all time. There are probably about half a dozen Elvis songs that I really like, and last year I went to see 'That's the way it is', the fly on the wall footage of Elvis and his Las Vegas concert. This came across very well in surround sound cinema, so I thought I would give 'Aloha' a spin on my DVD. It is bit dated, obviously, but somewhere between 1970 and 1973 he has lost a lot of stage presence that was evident in the Vegas show. My tip - if you want to see the 'King' really perform rent 'That's the way it was', which will get 5 stars from me when I rent it out.
