The eighties was a great time for teen movies - the collected works of John Hughes and others prove immensely popular to this day. Endless Love however is different to all the rest. In which other film do you find underage sex (Broooke Shields plays a 15 year old) and a boyfriend who loves a girl so much he burns her house down just to rescue her family to prove to them how much he loves her! And then he ends up in a mental asylum as a result! This film breaks conventions, and is quite beautiful to look at, even if some will find it a little bizarre. By the way, the BBFC cuts all references to underage sex from porn movies so it always amazed me that they allowed this film (even if tastefully done) to suggest that a 15 year old could be having sex!!

For anyone who has a heart - unforgettable. For anyone who has loved - believable. For anyone going through heartache - unmissable.

  • ENDLESS LOVE WAS NO ROMEO AND JULIET

    Rated - 2.0 stars

This was supposed to be a love story a la Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet this is not. To start with there was no real restriction imposed on the couple or visible or meaningful friction between the two families for it to be even compared to Romeo and Juliet and in fact the only reason why there were problems was just due to typical teenager issues, not the real sense of dishonour, tragedy, drama or controversy in films like West Side story and Romeo and Juliet. The acting was very good especially that of Brooke Shields however I cannot say I would recommend this. The ending was vague and generally the development of the story was mishandled. If you do not rent this out you will not be missing much.
