so-so thriller but fun

Agatha Christie may have been excellent at detective stories but from this example not so hot at thrillers. A chance meeting of a millionairess (Hayley Mills) and a layabout with dreams of wealth (Hywel Bennett) turns into a whirlwind romance and marriage. Things settle down despite the disapproval of the girls family and a far too familiar step-father (creepily played by Peter Bowles). Then Hayley MIlls' friend Britt Eckland and seems to be trying to get between the couple by showing her control over MIlls. Add a spooky lady who 'haunts' the area and things start to turn menacing. Some of the twists are a bit obvious but it's generally well done apart from the woefully inadequate acting of Britt. A sunday afternoon movie to watch while waiting for Heartbeat to start.
