Robert Dean (Will Smith) is a labor lawyer who is unknowingly in possession of evidence related to a serious politically motivated crime. Government agents eager to hide their guilt believe that Dean is on to them, and proceed to turn his life upside-down, ruin his reputation, and frame him for various incidents, thanks to the latest in high-tech government surveillance techniques. In an attempt to clear his name and reclaim his life, Dean teams up with the reclusive Brill (Gene Hackman), a former federal employee who has as much high-tech equipment and expertise as the government itself. Hackman's role is an extension of Harry Caul, the character he portrayed in Francis Ford Coppola's brilliant 1974 film, THE CONVERSATION. Smith scores as a man who is desperate to reclaim his identity and prove his innocence. This intense technological thrill-ride from director Tony Scott questions how much access the government should have to the communications of private citizens, and leaves the viewer with the unsettling feeling that Big Brother is definitely watching. Watch for the uncredited appearances of Jason Robards, Seth Green, Tom Sizemore, and Philip Baker Hall.

Expert direction by Tony Scott and a winning central performance by Will Smith give this cracking hi-tech thriller extra edge and appeal. When an incriminating tape revealing the murder of congressman Jason Robards accidentally ends up in Smith's possession, he finds himself relentlessly pursued by corrupt Jon Voight and his posse of electronic trackers, who use spy satellites, transmitters and all manner of undercover gizmos to trace him. The Fugitive meets The Conversation in this dynamically exciting action adventure that's both intriguing and scarily thought-provoking.
Energetic, paranoid thriller preoccupied with surveillance methods; its narrative becomes increasingly implausible and substitutes speed for sense.
This film had a great storyline from start to finish and you never knew what was going to happen next. Will Smith plays a very good part in it and hes funny too by the comments he makes. Its just the ending that just abit strange but apart from this then this is a film that you must see. 4 out 5

More than just little bro to heavyweight director Ridley Scott, Tony Scott is famous for a string of retro movies made in the eighties and early nineties. Scott paved the way for Eddie Murphy in the popular, albeit slightly cheesy follow-up film Beverly Hills Cop 2 and introduced a fresh faced Tom Cruise in Top Gun and Days of Thunder. Willing to show off his diversity as a director, Scott later gave true
