Sensible, hardworking Tim is climbing the managerial ladder, while daydreamer Nick can't seem to stay focused on the tasks at hand. But all of that changes when one of Nick's seemingly hairbrained ideas--a spray that makes dog poop disappear--takes off, making him filthy rich. Rather than leaving the neighborhood and his best friend, Nick turns his home into a mansion and his property into a veritable amusement park. Tim, meanwhile, laments his decision not to invest in Nick's invention early in the game, and his life begins to fall apart as envy takes over. This dark comedy directed by Barry Levinson (AVALON, TIN MEN) also stars Amy Pohler and Rachel Weisz. But it's Christopher Walken who is the real scene-stealer as a bizarre hippie-bum who befriends Tim when he's down and out, only adding to the mayhem.

This Barry Levinson-directed comedy was hanging around on the shelf until the success of Jack Black in The School of Rock thankfully freed it from potential obscurity. Ostensibly, it's the tale of two best friends/neighbours/co-workers, Tim Dingman (Ben Stiller) and Nick Vanderpark (Black). The duo's lives are turned upside down when Nick comes up with a revolutionary idea for a substance that makes dog excrement disappear into thin air: the appropriately named Vapoorizer. Tim turns down the chance to invest in the product so, when his buddy becomes a multi-millionaire, their relationship follows the doo-doo into oblivion, as Stiller is eaten up by an all-consuming envy. With the comic calibre of Stiller and Black on parade (as well as an almost obligatory Christopher Walken cameo), you'd think this would be a cast-iron laugh-fest. But, despite the undoubted talent of the leads, it's a comedy that offers titters rather than belly laughs, with Black, in particular, in unusually restrained mode.
Had School of Rock not made Jack Black so bankable, this comedy would surely have gone straight to video ... read more on Time Out
One of those films where you look at each other and wonder where the 'plot' is going. The answer is it goes nowhere. The film finishes and your patience isn't rewarded.
If you think a cast including Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Christopher Walken could not all be involved in a bad film you would be wrong. Terrible does not describe how bad this film is. DO NOT RENT!!!!!
