I found this film profoundly unsettling, but for that reason all the more riveting. There was one scene when I had to close my eyes because I couldn't bear to look at it. Richard Burton who plays the role of Martin Dysert, the doctor, is the central figure who holds the entire drama together. The action of the film revolves around Alan Strang, played superbly by Peter Firth. The supporting cast is also well chosen. Joan Plowright, who is cast in the role of the mother, is particularly appropriate as the anxious parent.
This is a film very worth watching. I give it five stars. The film is magnificently produced and a real work of art. The night scenes played out in Alan Strang's imagination are extraordinarily gripping as well as giving the action of the film added impact.
