A testament to 'never judging a book by its cover'By LD from Herts , 27 Feb 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]Roberts plays an apparantly dim, loud mouth, single mother with a questionable dress sense who, through desperation and bribery, gains employment from the lawyer who was partly responsible for her predicament.
She begins working for him, researching claims from a group of people who are
living next to a factory that is poisoning them. The film shows her tring to balance the needs of the families she is trying to get compensation for, and the remnants of her own personal life.
This film is based on a true story and Robert's character blossoms leaving you questionning your own prejudices in the wake of those around her.
A good film, not only for Roberts acting talent but also for showing the affect the character had on the lives of those she met.

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideFunny and uplifting. This is a story that makes women feel empowered and raises more laughs than expected. Julia Roberts makes a good job of playing Erin, and I wasn't as distracted by her eccentricities as I have been in the past.
The theme centres around the fight for victims of corporate corruption, which would seem trite if the film were not firmly rooted in reality. The fact that the story is based on truth and follows a linear timeline does not strip it of colour or interest. I would recommend seeing it, especially if you are not looking to be challenged intellectually.
