When John Carpenter and Kurt Russell teamed up for this sequel to ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, the idea was to kick butt and have fun. They do just that in ESCAPE FROM L.A., an explosive film that recalls the classic original in all the best ways. Infamous adventurer Snake Plissken gets another raw deal when he is forced to rescue the .. Read more

Working from the book by Richard Rashke, this is a compelling account of the escape from a Nazi death camp deep in the Polish countryside, concocted by a cabal of Jewish workers and Soviet soldiers. Over 250,000 million people died in the Sobibor gas chambers. In comparative terms, the fact that over 300 prisoners fled from this hellhole may seem slight. But their achievement remains one of the most audacious acts of courage in the entire Second World War. Alan Arkin is excellent as ringleader Leon Feldhendler, while Rutger Hauer and Joanna Pacula head a superb ensemble cast. But the key component is Jack Gold's directorial restraint and the film was deservedly rewarded with two Golden Globes.
No more than a weary rehash of Carpenter's Escape from New York; the plot has aged in the 15-year gap between the two movies, and one might have hoped that its star and director would have moved on to something less stale.
"...With much humor and high adventure, JOHN CARPENTER'S ESCAPE FROM L.A. imagines a Dante-esque vision of the City of Angels..."
This film is not a patch on the original Escape:-( Acting is dire, plot is dire and the effects are beyond belief in their style and presentation.
Sadly a case of making a sequel just becuase they could and were probably short of ideas for a good film.
Worth a watch after a few beers maybe and thats about it
i think this film is defianately worth a watch especially for those who like the old 80's style action movie
If you enjoyed New York you will enjoy this movie but you will also be very dissapointed! Kurt does what he can with the material and Buscemi is good as always,Fonda has an ok cameo as does Bruce Campbell. If you add beer and a smoke to the proceedings, you may want to give film a HIGHER rating!
Ok movie but don't expect too much. Watchable, but nothing special. Not a bad way to kill a few hours though.

I am fan of John Carpenter and Kurt Russell but this one is so preachy it should have had the dialogue on placards. The American world is a shxxhole and it is all those nasty right wing Christians who are to blame. A bit more mayhem and indiscipline and the world will be grand. Yeah...right. lol
It is so bad I even wonder if I want to watch the first one now!
This film has no redeeming features; ill concieved, ill written, ill executed. At the end Snake Plisken destroys global civilisation because he dislikes the US govenment. You'd have thought that this would LOOK exciting at least, but the special effects remind me of Blake's 7 - sadly the script does not. I hope that Pam Grier and Steve Buscemi were paid a fortune for appearing in this nonsensical rubbish.
Full of cheesy one liners from the impossibly named Snake Plisken - The coolest man on the planet. Enjoy for what it is, love the ending......very Snake Plisken.
The best thing about this film is the 80's 'future' style intro music. The worst thing is the cheesyness, which makes it hard to take seriously, though this makes it kind of funny to watch too. Some imaginative scenes and a good idea for an ending, although if you think about it, what Snake does at the end would probably cause the death and suffering of millions of people.
This film is certainly not as bad as the many negative reviews of it led me to believe. Having said that, it is a re-tread of the first film (complete with some unconvincing SFX) but as sequels go it's OK.
This film is not as good as the first but is still a classic movie in it's own right. Rent it if you like mid 90's action films. I love it anyway!
