Eskimo Nell is ahead of its time by about 25 years. It's a concept that would work today, exposing the era of the British soft porn film industry in such an endearing way that you find the running time fly past. At the time of this film being made, solely the British Sex Comedy was keeping British cinema afloat. Horror had gone big budget to the USA and Hollywood, so gone was the seemingly dated Hammer Horror... Porno chic was in around the world and for Britain and it's extremely tight censorship laws, this meant that it focused its output to the production of sex comedies. It has to be said that there were many of these films throughout the 70's and many of them are simply bad films. But at the time they were extremely successful at the box office. If you are like me, someone who has a perverse interest in 70's British sex cinema, this genre is extremely rewarding when visiting it on DVD. Eskimo Nell is an entertaining romp through London's Soho streets. I love to see London in the 70's on film and with that I was not disappointed in this film. Some great sequences of Soho. Along with some very funny moments and one of the best finales in British sex comedy history, with a car chase thrown in for good measure. I highly recommend this film to be watched while cuddled up on your sofa on a rainy Friday night, glass of red wine in hand and big bowl of popcorn... Enjoy a British classic from a much-underrated genre. Keep an eye out for a scene that features future British sex superstar Mary Millington, playing a stripping traffic warden.
*WARNING* All Robin Askwith fans please take note... he does not star in this film which is why I have only given it 3 stars lol.
