    [Highly rated reviewer]

If you were hoping for a continuation, or for a more condensed retelling the series, you are not in luck. The movie share a name with the series, as well as character and mech designs, but that is about it. Oh and one other thing. They are both GOOD.

In many respects this should have been its own movie, with no link to the series. While some footage is reused, there is as much if not more new footage. Likewise while some plot points are similar to a greater extent it is unrelated.

While the plot boils down to save the world, get the girl, the how and why they are connected is the main trust of the action, which is fluid and a joy to watch.

It's a good watch for both fans of the original series or if you've never seen it before.

Well where to start. This film left me speechless, the visual scenery was masterful, the musical score was brilliance. This is over shadowed by the genius in adapting the TV series into a two hour film. The story is told with great care and affection with twist that you can hardly believe. I would recommend this film to anyone, if they are interested in anime or not.

It contains all the intensity of FF Advent Children, coupled with the masterful story telling of Spirited away. A boy chasing after his heart and writing his own legend. Good Night, Sleep Tight Young Lovers

  • Watch the series instead

I'm afraid this was pretty incomprehensible, and moved along far too quickly without much explanation of events. After viewing, I looked this up and found that it's based on a 50 epsiode series all crammed into one film! No wonder it was hard to follow. By all accounts, the series is very good so watch that instead if you are interested.

A bit bonkers from the outset. Ridiculous plot, mediocre (English) voice talent and animation.

I'm unaware of the original series, but this doesn't seem like a fair representation of it in a 2 hour movie format.

  • Really not very good

You know those animes where everybody super over reacts and the angry looking faces bounce right up to the screen and then they scream something in a squeaky voice that doesn't fit in with what's going on? 'ARE YOU ENJOYING THAT CAKE?!!!' This is one of those. The story makes no sense at all and bounces all over the place with no rhyme or reason. The limited explanations for what is going on wouldn't convince a three year old. If it was possible to make a cartoon by making it up as you go along (quite painful on the artists’ hands as Homer was told) then this is what you'd end up with. Akira it aint.
