A coulpe of things to add
By a customer from London, England , 20 Jun 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
The first review here is spot on: not a great quality recording, but since Eva died before she became a household name, it's gratifying that there is anything on film at all; and these home-made, handheld, monochrome recordings (they may have been filmed in colour but they looked like they're B&W tinted) get right into her face to reveal someone with a passion matching Oscar Peterson or Stefan Grappelli. If you've ever watched the faces of either of those while they're playing you'll know what I mean.
This is also a short recording, well under an hour and just 10 songs, with 2 or 3 jazz numbers thrown in - not perhaps the style she's most loved for - but some of the favourites are included. What might really surprise is Eva's guitar playing - I knew she was good, but with a band supporting her I assumed most of the guitar work was the guitarist's, so it's impressive to find that she does all the fretwork on 'Autumn Leaves', for example, while singing.
Flawed, but a must for fans.- Was this review helpful to you?

(10)Poor performance values...
By PeterHammett (19 reviews) from Taunton , 08 Aug 2009Let's be objective.... We should not feel obliged to praise average performances once the performer has died. This is the sort of performance you could expect to see in most jazz bars anywhere in the world at any time by people who will remain local stars without an international stage. It's all very basic; her voice is okay, a very limited vocal range albeit with a great belt of power when she really goes for it. There is little originality, no charisma and her guitar-playing is awful. It's not long until you are willing for the whining to end. It is a sweet, childlike karaoke performance but I fear she would remain completely unknown if it hadn't been for the tragedy of her early passing.- Was this review helpful to you?

Amazing
By a customer from S. Wales , 25 Jan 2009Once you get past the basic quality of the recording, which in my opinion lends itself to a more personalised experience, the atmosphere of this DVD is amazing. The emotion displayed within each song is on times heart touching, especially when remembered in conjunction with the fact that what could of been a brilliant career was cut short so tragically.
All in all a very memorable and worthwhile rental, highly recommended to any fan of Evas' then once viewed go and buy it.- Was this review helpful to you?

eva cassidy
By a customer from Romford , 02 Oct 2008i am a great fan of eva cassidy, but i did not like this dvd, it was badly filmed, poor lighting and very amateurish production. obviously made before she was a big hit, but i feel this is poor quality.- Was this review helpful to you?

Eva Sings
By a customer from Scotland , 15 Aug 2007This is the only video of Eva that I've ever seen, probably the only one in circulation, since she died before her success came.
Amateurish quality, but left us wanting more, just as she did.- Was this review helpful to you?
