  • Intense, jaw dropping animation

    [Highly rated reviewer]

This is undoubtably the best DVD/Bluray anime release in the UK this year.

As a fan of the original series I was expecting a carbon copy of the second quarter of the original series - unlike the first film 1.01/1.11 (which you need to watch before this film) it would be difficult to list what has been rewritten for this feature as it has lots of original new content. Asuka even has a new surname and is much less irritating - in fact all the characters are more likeable!

The opening sequence is jaw droppingly amazing. This high standard is maintained throughout the film. If you can watch this on bluray please do, the detail is just fantastic. I just had to watch this again and again and again - at the end you get a small teaser of the next film in the series too at the end of the credits, EVA style. Bring it on!

  • Fair anime outing

A fair anime outing. You probably need the previous detail from the manga to really appreciate the complexity of the continued story but for those who are uninitated its still reasonably easy to follow. Rendering isn't bad - with some nice 3D solid backgrounds. Its about what you'd expect. 3 stars.

  • EPIC, But a bit poorly paced

NOtice: Do not watch this is you have not seen Evangelion 1. 11.

    2. 22 has fantastic action, great art and powerful concepts.

After the stunning, perfect pace of Eva 1. 11, which took everything from the original, and made it better and neater into a very cohesive FILM, I found that 2. 22, while being EXCEPTIONAL in the action and visual department, felt more like a collection of scenes, as opposed to a well constructed arc, like the 1. 11 had.

This is definately down to the sheer amount of new material and restructuring from the original, and I remain unconvnced that the creators know where they are going with this remake after 2. 22, whereas after 1. 11 I felt they were making the ultimate Evangelion.

I remain on the fence until the inevitable 3. 33 and 4. 44

But Its a great film and a must for anyone who loves Eva.

Very good plot and character development.

Showing intensely the hubris of men needing children to be warriors to protect mankind.

Highly emotional showing to sacrifice oneself for the greater good.

    Nice detailed, well-flowing graphics.

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHide

very poor story, a bunch of kids going to school and on the side, they're also pilots of gigantic robots that seem to be there for the sole purpose of defending the city from evil powers (and by the way in the process of 'defending' the city, they make damage of catastrophic proportion, so I wonder, what was the point?)

anyway, poor animation, silly story, a waste of time. i was hoping for something on the level of 'ghost in the shell', but I was terribly wrong.

Stunning visuals and character development from 1.11, having found Evangelion only once released on Blu ray I am not familiar with the earlier series.

This means I struggle a little with the plot but well worth the research time.

A detailed complex story that is complimented by the amazing Blu ray release.

Looking forward to 3.33 and 4.44 next year!
