Finally, a 3D prince charming!

The best thing about this truly excellent retelling of 'Cinderella' is that Prince Charming finally becomes a real person! Instead of the usual handsome prince come to rescue poor helpless Danielle, she is quite capable of rescuing herself and he is far from perfect. It is a shock when he finds out that she's not who he thought and he reacts badly, as most people would when being made to look foolish in public.

The same is true of the wicked stepmother: there is a reason for her treatment of danielle and with that, she too becomes a real person. Not a good person, but not some kind of inhuman monster either.

That is not to say that the film doesn't have faults, there are certain holes in its logic which grate somewhat, such as Danielle's ability with a sword. But these do not really impact your enjoyment of the story. And it is nice to finally see Cincerella something other than a helpless victim.
