  • Misleading trailer - not funny!

Although marketed as a comedy this film is really very sad. The lead character has an alcohol problem and has been dumped by his wife and has lost his job. The story revolves around him living out in his garden and getting thoroughly drunk and his friendship with a boy who cycles around whilst waiting for his mum to finish work. I was expecting a laugh but instead I was watching someone's life fall apart - felt a bit cheated!

  • Not a typical role for Ferrell.

An odd but interesting and humane role for Will Ferrell. The film has been advertised as a comedy, but it really so. Sure, it has it's funny moments but the film is a drama, and tells the story of a man who's fired from his job. He goes home to discover his wife has left him, changed all the locks on their home and left all his belongings on the front lawn. He befriends a young boy who helps him formulate a way forward. An unusual but original film that's well worth watching.

Only watched the first 20 minutes before giving up. It was painful! Not the comedy I was expecting. Don't rent this movie!

  • Ferrell attempts acting - doesn't fail!

Incorrectly marketed as a comedy, everything must go is more a drama about how you handle things when everything goes against you. Ferrell actually does reasonably well in his performance; i've never found him funny but his acting in this was actually quite decent. Rebecca Hall is always excellent (although she doesn't make a lot of films that appeal to me), and her performance in this is understated and supports Ferrell well. Nothing too exciting happens, but that is clearly the film's intention. Ferrell visibly matures and forms interesting relationships with his guest stars as things progress. This is very much a 'use once and destroy' film, but I was entertained throughout. It's not going to change the world, but it's a reasonable way to spend an hour and a half.

  • Not your usual Will Ferrell film.

It was quite a thoughtful and moving film. I was expecting Will Ferrell's usual comedic character but was pleasantly surprised by this more serious role. It was quite slow at places but I personally enjoyed this.
