Winstone has never given a quieter, more effective performance and Graveson is a revelation.
I'm glad I didn't read up on this movie before I rented it, otherwise I probably would have passed. Apparently made on a budget of less than 50K and completed in 9 days doesn't really make you feel it's had much effort put into it all and therefore shouldn't warrant a viewing. Ray Winstone allegedly done this for free because he liked the script so much.
Theres not a lot to say about this film with regards to the plot that hasnt already in the synopsis without ruining it. One thing I would say is it is extremely well acted with two very strong and captivating lead roles (Ray Winstone, Jan Graveson). Gritty in places and all in all a very good film which deserves to be seen by anyone who likes a drama with some substance behind it. Its an incredibly intense piece of work that really works well, surprisingly well.
This film is quite dark and disturbing in places due to the subject matter of prostitution. Without wishing to give too much away, a chap visits a prostitute but wants to befriend her and understand her life. The whole film concentrates on these two characters without much going on elsewhere, so credit to their acting skills to keep things alive for 90 minutes!! It's not a thriller; it's deep and needs thought, but at the end you will see the reason behind his behaviour and his need to understand.
