If you've seen the first Evil Dead Trap and thought it took some strange plot turns, you haven't seen anything yet in this barely-connected sequel.
A strange, dumpy girl works as a projectionist, fends off the advances of her glamorous reporter friend's (married) lover, and sometimes goes out at night on strange errands...
Meanwhile, the married lover's wife insists that their vanished son Hideki has returned, and the glamorous reporter works on a story about a serial killer of local women who likes to take a piece of the victims.
Visually impressive, particularly the later section set in an abandoned shopping mall; watch if you like unusual female leads and Dario Argento films. Avoid if you like plots where everything is explained, and if you are squeamish about violence, particularly of a sexual nature.
DVD picture and sound quality were good; extras including cast and crew biographies (in very small type), and hyperbolic Japanese trailer (subtitled)
In Japanese with clear subtitles.

Rent out your top three scary films and turn the lights off this Halloween, for Empire Online has published its writers' favourite Halloween triple-bills suitable for a festive viewing party. The first trio includes Hellraiser, Halloween and Evil Dead II. Hellraiser is a grisly eighties horror, while Halloween is considered by many as the original slasher movie. Sam Raimi's Evil Dead II - the story of a cabin full of strangers is invaded by spirits - rounds off the selection. If you want to... Read more
