It's Me....

This is a beautifully crafted film, with wonderful crisp photography and each character giving an intense performance.
The story has the element of folk tale to it and indeed the bulk of the story is set within a small community that is visited by two brothers Knut and Erik, both of whom are assigned the task of marking the border between Finland and Russia.
To divulge more of the story would ruin the surprises along the way and a magnificent twist, possibly one of the finest I've seen for a long while, which maintains the integrity of the story whilst giving the audience a nice sting in the tale.
The movie, originally called Sauna, is a fine example of chilling horror, the kind perfected by M.R.James, where it is the sound, rather than the sight.
This film does have it's share of moderate blood but it is in no way explicit as modern cinema seems to warrent currently.
The movie is similar in tone to the work of David Lynch, featuring some wonderful sound design and heart pounding moments of horror, the film also acts as a tale of redemption but this is a very loose strand within the story that may have benefitted from a slightly extended running time, however, it has to be said that it is a rare treat to find a little heard of film, certainly from my viewpoint, that actually delivers something very fresh and highly original.
Do not go into this film with any preconceptions, especially as a fan of the horror genre, it is a film to envelop ones self in and allow yourself to be transported to a different time and a different place.
A wonderful, magical, creeping horror.- Was this review helpful to you?

(2)What's it all about????
By Minny (567 reviews) from London , 06 Oct 2011Beautifully shot and very atmospheric. i enjoyed it very much but quite honestly I was a bit clueless as to what was really going on in it and who was who. However the realisim of the film took over and I found myself watching it even though I was not entirely sure of the plot. It is a film that deserves respect in this genre.- Was this review helpful to you?
