    [Highly rated reviewer]

I really enjoyed reading the book and didn't even realise the tv series existed so was chuffed when i discovered this enthralling documentary!!

It was great to see the scenery and different people they met after picturing them in my imagination.

It was genuinely touching to see everyone Ewan and Charley met, being so accommodating and pleasant in despite of their own hardships and obvious language barriers.

By the end of their trip the guys wariness of strangers and defensiveness had disappeared as they realised the majority of the human race are actually pretty decent and that at the end of the day we all have the essentials in common!!!

There was also some heart in mouth moments, like them trying to cross the rivers on the 'road of bones' and that terrifying second you thought the trucks were going to topple over!!! So much for the bloody road, it should have been called the 'pot holed river of bones with the odd rock thrown in'!!!

Overall this was an exceptionally inspirational account of the fella's trip, seeing how different people live round the world but also at a basic level how we are all the same!!!

I felt like I made that trip with the guys, through the hardship of Siberia and Mongolia to when they reached New York with an entourage of bikers in tow. It was a genuinely touching and rewarding moment.....and thats what makes great tv!!!

I have a new found respect for Charley and Ewan who seem like really down to earth blokes who are great friends and were simply living their dream!!!!

Can't wait for your next trip guys!!!

Some people are very cynical. How about them having a go at doing what Ewan and Charlie did and see how they cope. Admittedly the back-up team helped but they had some sticky moments as well. I particularly liked the insight into Ewan's character. As well as being a family man he demonstrated that he is tenacious , kind and very impish, but then I could be his mother!

Brilliant show, great footage, amazing, touching events.

Don't bother renting the final DVD it is 90 minutes long and only shows about 10 minutes of unseen footage. The rest is interviews and repeated scenes.

Charley Boorman and Ewan McGregor visit some amazing places on this trip, yet still manage to make a dull programme, due to Charley Boorman being the most boring person ever to appear on television. I find Siberia one of the most fascinating places in the world, but in Boorman's hands it has nothing. He never seems to understand or connect with the people or places he visits at even a basic level and no matter how good his subject matter i. e. where he goes, he ruins it . I imagine he could make the journey to the Moon seem like a commute to work , or an H Bomb explosion like tripping over. It is unfair that he gets to go on an amazing journey and make a film about it, when almost every body else on the planet could do a better job than him.

Really enjoyed this even though it seemed a bit dramatised for the cameras. Afterall people live in these conditions ALL the time these two just had to pass through - with their 'support team'. Still overall a watchable programme.

Ok.... I am about to give a brutally honest opinion of the actual adventure, not the relatively watchabke Tv series... But only want to do this because Whilst it makes pretty good viewing, and is reasonably well produced, the series is a poor third to the REAL around the world trip in Mondo Enduro or Terra Circa, both of which preceded and presumably inspired Long Way Round. (I heard that these real adventurers were oft-ignored advisors to the celebs!)

If you love biking, and adventure, this will appeal to you, it did me.... until I found out about the aforementioned adventures. I was even gifted the book.... But sadly hindsight makes you realise this title certainly has a Hollywood-esque budget....the on camera producer can sometimes grate, and you wonder if Charlie & Ewan had truly gone solo would they have achieved more?? And the bikes they use.... Could they be any heavier??

And if you wonder, you and I could rent a scooter and get to Magadan!!!

In all a watchable DVD, but a pinch of salt recommended!!
