Billed as "the ultimate parody of anime," EXCEL SAGA certainly goes out of its way to parody every convention of the genre it can. From the cloying J-pop opening, it's clear that this series' sole aim is to be a good-natured farce, one that revolves around a main character who, on the surface is not much different from any other anime heroine. However, the key difference between Excel and all those who preceded her is that Excel is completely and utterly insane and considers it her goal to conquer the city of F. This gives the series a clear and ingenious jumping off point as it encounters Martian princesses, afro-wearing action heroes, mysterious governmental agencies, space butlers, deranged comic book authors, annoying roommates, and removable moustaches, among other things.

If this carries on in the same vein it will become one of my favourite anime of all time - it's just totally crazy - loads of fun, laughs and surreal goings on. This must have been created by a twisted genius - nothing I have seen before in the anime world is anything like it. Superb!
This has got to be one of the most twisted and humerous pieces of Anime that I have seen in a long time. It spoofs various other Japanese TV shows and films including Fist of the North Star and Power Rangers. The show takes the micky out of itself at every opportunity and most of it will not make much sense, which is part of its appeal. You can just sit back, relax and let it warp your mind with its super-cute alien invaders, Afro wearing super hero's and sinister world conquering organisations.
