Billed as "the ultimate parody of anime," EXCEL SAGA certainly goes out of its way to parody every convention of the genre it can. From the cloying J-pop opening, it's clear that this series' sole aim is to be a good-natured farce, one that revolves around a main character who, on the surface is not much different from any other anime heroine. However, the key difference between Excel and all those who preceded her is that Excel is completely and utterly insane and considers it her goal to conquer the city of F. This gives the series a clear and ingenious jumping off point as it encounters Martian princesses, afro-wearing action heroes, mysterious governmental agencies, space butlers, deranged comic book authors, annoying roommates, and removable moustaches, among other things.

Excel Saga continues to be a superior slice of Japanese Animation spoofing a different genre every episode. This DVD includes episodes spoofing horror films, survival films and girly Manga (or perverted old man Manga!).
The show is very surreal and some moments are just too odd but overall it has many laugh out loud moments and the sheer energy of the show is so compelling.
One for every Manga fan
