a good third rate film- claims to explore the world of BDSM, but ends up more vanilla than a convoy of ice-cream trucks

Exit To Eden

Director Garry Marshall
Genres Comedy, Thriller
Run time 109 mins Certificate 18

12th November 2010

At times painfully annoying, with bad music and cliche, contains good and somewhat arousing moments, a fairly griping plot together with some amusing comic moments. As BDSM goes, still remains very vanilla and a little disappointing, lacking real psychological insight. Perhaps for a mainstream American film it was a little risque, but it just seems a little bland as fetish or BDSM goes, certainly compared with a film like the Secretary.

I have scene far more insightful films into the dynamic of BDSM relationship; this one prefers to just fall into the trap of in a way a very standard, rather sugary sweet, romantic comedy, despite the curious gender role reversal of comically sexually repressed men and emotionally repressed women.

It seems that most of the male actors in the film were chosen for the physique rather than acting ability.

Not an entirely hopeless film
