Slow paced but beautifully made
By chaz83uk (41 reviews) from Birmingham , 26 Aug 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
It's hard to describe the plot of this movie. Its based around several characters and their unhealthy relationships. These characters are mostly obsessed with the object of their desire to the point of their own destruction. It's very slow paced and you never really get inside the heads of the characters. But I think thats the idea. Details are kept hidden, revealed slowly through careful editing. You're led to believe one thing and then shown another. Things make more sense the longer you watch. It really is well made and beautiful but it wasn't my kind of film. I was impressed, but not interested.- Was this review helpful to you?

(64)warning not for soft core fans
By itstinks (681 reviews) from North of Reading , 12 Feb 2009Another of Egoyans puzzle boxes, if you need to have a film spoon fed to you then please don't spend your time trying to watch this and then slag it off. Fo those who can accept that a film about love, regret , longing and pain can be set around a strip club will experience a detached film of shattering emotions. I love the soundtrack as well.- Was this review helpful to you?

voyeristic and fascinating storylines
By katepoy (2 reviews) from Glasgow , 08 Apr 2008Brilliant acting from all involved, several different storys are linked with an Exotic dance club, there is everything in this film, love, betrayal, murder, lies, deceit, and the characters are believable. Great sound track too. One of y all time art house favourites.- Was this review helpful to you?

Personal exotic problems
By TurkeyJoe (8 reviews) from Golders Green, London , 10 Aug 2007An engrossingly dark tale about a set of tangled relationships centering on a Toronto-based table-dancing club where girls dance for male clients. But far more startling than any nudity is how the film slowly strips bare the events and emotions that drive the main characters. Atom Egoyan - a still insufficiently known director. Try also (by the same director): The Adjustor and The Sweet Hereafter.- Was this review helpful to you?
