Mr Gervais had a tough act to follow with The Office and I couldn't help but feel that the first series of Extras just didn't quite hit the mark, sure it was funny but was hiding behind the star names Ben Stiller and co to give it Kudos. Thankfully the second series really moves on, with the launch of his own sitcome Andy (Gervais) deals with fame in an awkward and funny way. The greatest triumph of the show is in the supporting cast with the performances of Ashley Jensen as Maggie and Barry from Eastenders providing great comic timing. The star of the show in many ways is Stephen Merchant as the agent Darren Lamb, here is where they have tapped in to comic genius. It is pleasing to see Merchant and Gervais working as well on screen as they do off it, Role on Series 3.
Gervais is back but Steve Merchant takes the hilarity to a new level. Not as much self-deprication as Extras Series One, but still some great bits. Fantastic cameos from celebrities, good Gervais humor.
