Nolte, at what he does best. Some good ass kicking moments in this classic 80's action movie.....plenty of violence, much better than the RUBBISH that keeps getting made these days.....

What a mixture. The cia meet the A team and mission impossible and the wild bunch. A modern sheriff who does gun fights. A high tech bank robbery. All there. I was not happy with the acting but suppose the younger generation will love every minute of it. Load of gun play.

Extreme Prejudice is a rooting tooting modern Western, from the legendary Walter Hill, who brought you films of the likes of The Warriors. This is the story of America's secret war against drug dealers. Nick Nolte is Jack Beatman, a hard as nails Texas Ranger, going against Powers Boothe, as Cash Bailey, a ruthless drug baron, who used to be a friend of Jack when they were children. It kind of makes me think of what would happen if I had to fight someone who used to be my old friend... and it's even more complicated where they both love the same woman. And they are all caught up in a huge war of American commandos who are all believed to be dead, but are undercover to smash a drugs ring operating out of Mexico. The film has an energising, exciting film score, by legendary film composer James Horner. The Marines are all played by some of the tough guys of the screen, Michael Ironside, Clancy Brown, William Forsyth... This is a fantastic enjoyable modern Western, in the vein of the Wild Bunch. I loved every minute of it, and it's an essential piece to any action movie fan's collection! Two thumbs up, a brilliant bullet fest! Check it out. That's an order!

  • Half decent, if muddled, western

This plays like the A-Team meets The Wild Bunch, and although I did enjoy this 80's modern-day western, I found that I didn't care too much about who lived or died.

That said, the shoot-outs are bloodily enjoyable, and totally silly, but are well worth a look as I found myself grinning from ear to ear.

See this if you liked Young Guns, The Wild Bunch or Last Man Standing.

Not that trying to be Sam Peckinpah is a bad thing... This is a competent adventure movie with some great faces. Has some links to 'No Country for Old Men' as well as 'The Wild Bunch'.

If, like me, you think there aren't enough movies with Powers Boothe in them, then this is worth a punt.

Compared to likes of Driver, Southern Comfort or Last Man Standing this one seems less cartoonish. Nick Nolte and Powers Boothe play long time buddies now on the opposite side of the law. Fair amount of violence and Ry Cooder produces an electronic soundtrack. I guess Hil's approach didn't fit the 80s quite so well though at times it makes you think like it should have been his best film. Somewhat disappointing though I can't really tell why since the performances are excellent all round.
