LOVEFiLM Review Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

  • 1.5 stars out of 5

    By Tom Charity from LOVEFiLM

Tom Hanks' latest offering centered around the events of 9/11 proves to be a misjudged and overly sentimental tale that falls on its implausability.

The beginning 30 minutes or so builds a picture and the film initially appears slow. It centres around Oscar and his search for links to his father who is killed in the 9/11 attacks. It becomes very moving in terms of the grief Oscar feels which seems like the grief and confusion of a nation at the time was put into Oscar. There are a few lighter moments, but this is an emotional movie. It takes a lot for me to be emotional but the tears were flowing by the end of the film. This is the best movie I have seen this year.

it has a slow start & makes you think that it is going to be one of those films that you give up on but it is actually a great film with a great storyline. Stick with it

Loved the movie! Initially slow, but with good reason - the kid has issues. It is intense at times but a lovely human drama: typical Bullock, picking up on human quirkiness. It was a little slow and maybe a little too long - but the ending was delightfully unexpected. I loved it - and there were no loose ends in the story - everything tied in neatly. The only thing wrong with it was the title - too long winded and I never remember it (that's probably just me)

Quite possibly the worst film I've ever seen, I'd rather force needles through my eyelids than sit though this again. The kid, Oscar, is a whiney brat all the way though and the only reason I continued watching was to see what the key opened, which turned out to be sweet F. A! Bubonic plague is preferable to watching this film. Avoid at all costs!

5 stars ! Wonderful film. Beautifully shot. The main character is quirky, but really grows on you - can't remember the last time I cried so much in a film, and just didn't want it to end. Loved it.

Fell asleep within the first ten minutes of the film. Could not even force myself to continue watching it. I believe I wasted a rental choice.
