Uninspiring
By Greg from Weymouth, Dorset , 27 Apr 2007[Highly rated reviewer]
First and foremost, this game is a port. The development studio have simply translated the code from the 360 version to get it to work on the PS3. What this means is that you get no next-gen characteristics to this game at all. Graphics, sound, AI are all firmly rooted in PS2 era.
This doesn't make it a bad game by any means, and the story line is strong enough to keep you interested. But don't think this game is the future of the platform (indeed don't think of it as the present). 360 fans have been using this game as evidence that the 360 is the better hardware - It isn't (no really it isn't), but if the studio continue to roll out this level of game then it might as well be.
Resistance is a better PS3 title if first person shooters are your thing, and even CoD3 has gorgeous graphics to look at, even with a weak storyline.
Until the platform has matured a bit, I would be careful about buying any titles without doing my homework. Basic ports of this kind do nothing for the PS3.- Was this review helpful to you?

(33)Average Game F.E.A.R
By AlexJones_Bankai (31 reviews) from Shrewsbury , 11 Jul 2011It seemed like a good game, I played Fear 2 first (I had that when it came out for my bday) so obviously I had missed alot of the story by that point.
After playing it, despite the bad graphics (i think the game was ported from PC to Ps3), it was quite a good game. It let me down with having no subtitles as I am hard of hearing.
The story seemed good and there were some moments of fright in it. But overall I think I prefer the second game. (not played F3ar yet).- Was this review helpful to you?

crap on its own, brilliance as a trilogy!
By discspinna (8 reviews) from penrith , 07 Jul 2011graphics are poor for a ps3 game, but the story is great, and if you play it, then 2, then 3 you will realise the masterpeice that has been given to you!- Was this review helpful to you?

Worst game I've ever played...
By Zacca (1 review) from Barrow-in-Furness , 17 Jun 2009Where do I start with this...
This game is definitely among the worst games I have ever played, from the abismal graphics, which would look bad on a PS2 never mind PS3, to the appalling animation on everthing from reloading your weapon, to aiming... You'll pull the R2 button to start firing and 5 seconds later your gun will start firing on screen!!!...
Avoid at ALL costs, shocking game.

Awful, just awful
By qotas (23 reviews) from Lincoln , 03 Jun 2009I love FPS games but this has to be the worst game I have ever played! I was so dissapointed, it seems to get alot of hype, why I just don't know. The graphics for a next-gen console are poor, the storyline, and i use the term 'story' loosely is appalling and confusing.
The game failed to draw me in at all and the ending just made it feel even more pointless and dull.
If you are feeling masochistic then by all means try this, if you bought it then I feel truly sorry for you. If you are thinking of getting it, don't.- Was this review helpful to you?

Such a shame
By TonyTTiger (5 reviews) from Sawbridgeworth , 16 Jan 2009I wasn't aware that this game was designed specifically for the 360 initially, now it makes a lot more sense. As some of the other reviewers have stated, the gameplay itself is pretty good and the story line is also not bad, but I'm dissappointed that they haven't used any of the PS3's awesome abilities.
There are dozens of FPS games on the PS3, such as Resistance, Condemned, MoH and CoD and when you compare this to them, I just feel it doesn't quite cut it. It has the look and feel of a PS2 game as opposed to a PS3 game, albeit a good PS2 game. If I'm honest, it felt a little like lazy programming.
There are several functions in the game that I feel do not use the full potentional of the PS3 and the 'slow-mo' functionality is one thing about it that annoys me, it felt more like a hinderance than a help. There are several FPS games that have a similar function, Stranglehold, Timeshift to name a couple and I think they use it a lot better.
I just hope they take a little more time in developing FEAR 2 as this could be an excellent game if it uses the PS3's abilities better.- Was this review helpful to you?
