Sad but beautiful vignette of a life wasted...

A really interesting and extremely well played look into the bohemian side of life in the 60's that created and dropped icons and twisted already fragile minds beyond what they could take. This isn't a particularly cheerful film but is very interesting, informative and important.

Edie is brilliantly played by Sienna Miller, and comes across as the fun seeking faun of 60s pop art scene, but inside fragile and manipulated and used by many around her. While Warhol (again I think brilliantly brought across by Guy Pearce ) is a weirdo who fed off the misplaced adoration of groupies around him picking up and dropping people he could use and feed off like confetti.

There are a few factual errors, In the film his father is said to be a Miner, and that is generally thought to be the case, he was actually a construction worker from Pennsylvania, the family were immigrants from Slovakia named Varchola, and as a boy Warhol gained much of his eccentricity by being at home suffering with a nervous disorder that caused blotchiness and he would stay home with mother rather then mix with others, in the weird world of the 60's this gave him a weird magnetic aura that blew up out of all proportions relative to his skill.

I feel his 'pop' art is more a hang off from his previous incarnation as a simply advertising illustrator, I certainly don't find his art as important or original as other contemporary artists say Picasso or Dali, in fact his output was probably blown into fame by the reputation gained by his drug fuelled hangers on.

I was brought into knowing Edie by the Cult song of the same name (Edie-Ciao baby) which I still play regularly, and I think this sums up Edie Sedgewick extremely well 'Caught up in an endless scene, Paradise a shattered dream'.... Indeed... well worth a watch.

    Guilty Pleasures

Warhol's Factory continues to fascinate and influence popular culture almost 40 years after its heyday, so, it comes as little surprise that one of its most glamorous inhabitants is the subject of this new film. Unfortunately, this is not an incisive study of the beautiful but needy socialite and actress, for that you would be better off reading the brilliant, 'Edie' by Jean Stein and watching 'Beauty No. 2' and 'Ciao Manhattan.'

'Factory Girl' suffers from a clichéd script and a tendency towards the melodramatic - indeed the entire film lacks the playfulness and intelligence of the films that came out of the Factory. Many of the performances are caricatures, impersonations of the characters that were so dynamic and exciting, and, if the director can throw in a 60's style cliché, he does!

So, why then, did I enjoy it all so much? Perhaps, as the actors began spouting their cliches and dancing to Psychotic Reaction I just abandoned all hope of a great film about the Factory and started to enjoy this for what it really is, a trashy melodrama, a 'Valley of the Dolls' for the 00's with flash and pizazz to spare.

I am sure that someone is going to make a great film about the phenomena of Warhol and his Superstars one day; this isn't it, but it is a lot of fun if you surrender to its trashy aesthetic

    ridiculous

cliched, meandering, pointless. cringeworthy dialogue and tacky camera work.

sienna miller is quite pretty and looks like edie.

she does a LOT of cigarette smoking and a bit of 'groovy' dancing. i spent a lot of the time feeling embarrassed.

guy pearson was hideously miscast - a beefcake in bad make-up. haydyn christianson as bob dylan was verging on the hilarious.

the soundtrack was unforgivably dull and completely forgettable. a travesty.

if yr a fan of warhol or the factory in any way, give this a wide berth and rent ' i shot andy warhol' starring lili taylor which is a much more accurate and authentic portrait of the time. it's not as fluffy though.

    OK

NICELY ACTED BY SIENNA MILLER, BUT ULTIMATELY A DEPRESSING FILM & NOT SURE HOW REALISTIC IT WAS OF THAT ERA.

Sienna Miller has really come into her own as Edie!

Sienna Miller was absolutely brilliant as Edie Sedgwick. Having seen a few documentaries and flicks with Edie in it I was really surprised how close Miller came to being Edie. She captured the accent and the interesting lull to her voice that was Edie's own and her acting was really raw and brilliant! Sienna has proven that she can do more than be a fashion icon/say swear words or be Jude Law's plaything. She is actually very talented and should do more demanding roles because she has shown that she is certainly well up to it. I am well impressed, Ms. Miller (whereas before I just didn't think she was anything special). Watch this film, it was beautifully shot and well worth a watch. One thing that could have been done differently and I am sure would've made a bigger, better difference is to have cast a better suited actor as Andy Warhol.

    A wonderful biopic to watch

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this film. Sienna Miller is brilliant as rich and beautiful Edie Sedgwick. When she meets Andy Warhol, New York's most famous artist, her life changes - - - from unknown trust fund baby into the Big Apple's most dazzling Superstar only to find herself slowly lose grip on reality... I enjoyed Guy Pearce’s portrayal of Warhol. He comes across as a nasty piece of work. He abandons Edie, when she destroys their platonic relationship by falling for the political rock star Quinn – played by Hayden Christensen (Star wars). I read some awful reviews in the papers before seeing this film. Some said:”superficial, pointless and surprisingly dull trudge”. I found this film very informative, a fascinating insight into 60’s bohemian life style and would definitely recommend it as well worth watching.

    Didn't finish it

Couldn't watch passed the first hour, and even that I fast forwarded. Not my idea of a good movie at all. Andy Warhol looked wrong and Edie just smoked all the time - no good.

    Like one long pop video

Soon tired of looking at this superficial piece of fluff. Doesn't really offer up any insight into a tragic and also fascinating life.
