A Hit
By Lord Q from Winchester, UK , 20 Sep 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Cold war drama with a similar storyline to Dr Strangelove, but without the comedy.
The sense of 1960s TV theatre is real - this is a recording of the live b/w TV broadcast. Moving performances from a brilliant starry cast remind you just how good these actors can be.
America's climate of fear is as relevant today as it was then. Depressing to think that no real President would have the nobility to make the kind of agonising sacrifice that Richard Dreyfus does here.- Was this review helpful to you?

(28)What a wonderful surprise
By a customer , 05 May 2011Wasn't sure what the film was about initially rented it because I love the actors Don Chedle and George Clooney to name but two. What a wonderful production. One to watch again and again. As some of the other reviews have mentioned this was acting at it's finest. I was hooked from the beginning to the end.
If only real life could learn the lesson in the film. War is pointless- Was this review helpful to you?

Exciting Movie
By MACIAN (19 reviews) from Shropshire , 10 Sep 2010this remake of the original was faithful in nearly every way. Using Black and White as opposed to colour was right and did give the movie a sinister reality. As one who lived an active part in this Period I know how close we came on a few occasions. Although younger people have not experienced a political knife edge in reality this movie comes close. there are a couple of characters in this who really represent some crackerjacks back then, - their views (and) actions were lunacy. however we jhave come through the dangers back then through some good sense. I recommend this movie to all see it just once - and BELIEVE - that this was and is still very possible- even Probable. -and learn!- Was this review helpful to you?

Worthy
By a customer from Exeter , 29 Jan 2010This was a worthy remake of a film which didn't need remaking but I understand George Clooney made it for television which is not a bad thing to do. If I hadn't already seen the original I'd be praising this more but the Henry Fonda version is a hard act to follow.- Was this review helpful to you?

Amazing - completely gripping!
By a customer from London , 30 Dec 2008Really loved this film - the fact that it was filmed live was really irrelevant because it didn't lower the production values - it made it more exciting.
Fantastic performances all round - and a real examination of war policies.
Didn't make the russians or the americans into villians - just examined the nature of war.
I would recommend this to anyone!- Was this review helpful to you?
