If you've seen any of Wong Kar Wai's films, you'll know what to expect. If not, then throw away any pre-conceptions of Hong Kong cinema, because Wai's films are very European in feel. Heavy in atmosphere and style, but low on action and drama.

Although Fallen Angels details the exploits of a hitman and his partner, the film focuses almost entirely on relationships. There are some action sequences in the film, but in keeping with Wai's style, they're shot with handheld cameras, with plenty of blurring and choppy editing, giving a very dizzy impression.

If you've never seen a Wong Kar Wai film, keep an open mind and expect more of a romantic drama rather than a standard Hong Kong actioner. If you already know Wai's work, there's no further recommendation.

For a perfect double bill, watch Fallen Angels (FA) with Chungking Express (CE) - there are plenty of references in FA to CE and plot simularities between the two films.

My only fault with the film is the irritating Flying Picket's song 'Only You' over the end credits!
