This is a convoluted Omen-esque chiller from the director of Primal Fear, Gregory Hoblit. Denzel Washington gives a strong central performance as a Manhattan homicide detective pursuing a supernatural serial killer. The initial development of the tale is intriguing, with seemingly disparate strands of information gradually combining into the discovery of a vengeful ancient god. But the atmosphere is only fitfully scary because of writer/producer Nicholas Kazan's loose-ended, pretentiously unresolved script. While the best sequence has the evil spirit transferred by simple touch around police headquarters, it's the shock Revelations-inspired climax that makes the biggest impression — for being so outrageously daft.

  • A supernatural thriller that offers little in the way of frisson; the Devil may have the best tunes, but he still has the worst films.

    Spooky & very entertaining.

Together with Inside Man one of the two most original films in which the incredible Mr Washington has starred. Watch with an open mind!

Being a big fan of Denzel Washington, I was more than happy to sit down and watch this film. From the get go the director took the viewer by the throat and didn't let go until the end credits rolled over. The movie was absolutely brilliant and kept me glued to the screen. I purchased this movie as soon as it was available and have watched it countless times since. I wouldn't rate many movies 5 star, but this movie cannot be rated any other way.

    A supernatural thriller

It took me a little while to grasp what was going on but when I started to follow the plot I have to agree that it is compelling viewing.

    One to make you think.

Denzel Washington is always a highly watchable actor, and he is no different in this movie. His portrayal of the detective is credible and the whole movie takes you on a journey that is mixed with detective work that is laced with a supernatural theme. It takes a while to realise what is going on, and it's a film that you need to concentrate on.. no point watching this while you're doing a crossword for example! I have seen it a couple of times and it's had me transfixed on both occasions. Very good indeed. Stylishly filmed and directed and some good acting.

    Intelligent and thought-provoking

Denzil Washington is superb in this thriller. He can bring great vulnerablity to his performance, which just suits this clever mix between traditional serial-killer and supernatural chiller movie. There's a chase sequence in this movie that is so scary it makes the hairs on your neck stand up, and there's not a car in sight. Watch and see. Very, very good entertainment.

    Very good supernatural thriller!

'Tiiiiiime, time is always on my side' This song will be ringing in your ears after watching this film, but be careful to listen to the conversations very carefully as there are clues which point to the ending. If like me you watch it when you are tired then you will not understand the end so listen carefully! I watched it twice just to make sure I got optimum benefit from this film! If also you are a fan of Denzel Washington then this film will be even better for you!! I would like to tell you the story but this might spoil your fun, lets just say that a few murders happen and the murderer is very hard to find!

    Time to watch a burner.

A very original and fab film, highly watchable and unusual. Denzel is on top form as a detective hunting down an evil and terrible serial killer.

Very stylish and gripping, but watch carefully.
