    Fame...with NO heart and soul!

For a moment I thought I was watching High School Musical as like in HSM, all the actors look like they are 12 year old! Most were extremely fresh faced and reed thin and they look like they come out of an Abercombie and Finch american ad! What a stretch from the original Fame that was vibrant, cool, with excellent songs and a superb storyline. The original Fame is a masterpiece, pure legend. We loved the characters, we loved the dances, we loved the music. I watched it last week for the millionth time and it always has the same effect: I finish watching Fame and I'm singing and dancing (privately of course) for days! I feel inspired. That was Fame the original! Fame 2009, the remake was a limp, tired attempt at anything remotely interesting. No decent new songs , the plot line was almost non existent and fumbly put together and I couldn't care for any of the characters at all. Creative type people have very distinctive characters and that really came across in Fame the original (can anyone ever forget Leroy, Danny and Doris?), in the remake non of the character were remotely interesting.None seemed like the creative type. This movie seemed more like a badly thought out show case for Debbie Allen's passion: it didn't translate very well.Having been brought into the 21st century, there was a rare opportunity to have made a really exquisite dance film (so few of them are made these days) by having taken the original and having updated it and made it current and more vibrant. What was done instead did not do justice to the original, so for anyone out there who has never seen Fame....rent the original's DVD and give this one a miss. As a follow up or remake of the original it is very very sadly lacking, and as a sing and dance movie it just doesn't cut the mustard. The heart and soul that is the original Fame's trademark is missing and vibrancy and superb dance moves/songs one expects from a brilliant dance movie are clearly missing as well. Hugely disappointing!

Give this one a miss and Rent Fame the original and catch the tv series too...

I had mentioned in my previous review that Doris, Leroy and Danny were unforgettable in the original, but meant to say Coco,Doris and Bruno as they were in the original and some went on to the tv series. So while you're at it, if you can see the original AND see the tv series, you'll get a real kick from both as both were superb.....can't say the same for this remake.
