[Highly rated reviewer]this dvd is superb. Family Guy is a cartoon series about an American suburban family, consisting of: a well-meaning mum, fat slob dad, and their 3 dysfunctional kids. This series is aimed at a more adult audience, with some very interesting twists to the storylines, most notably Stewie the psychopathic baby and Brian the urbane, talking dog.
There is Peter Griffin - who works in a toy factory and falls asleep on duty, and whose daily rituals of TV watching take priority over everything else.
There is Lois Griffin - the devoted wife and mother, who dreams of becoming a star entertainer. she juggles the housework and motherhood with teaching piano lessons, and avoiding being killed by her murderous infant - Stewie Griffin.
Stewie Griffin - is the youngest of the Griffin clan, but is the most intelligent. His plans of world domination are hindered by his infancy, but he isn't about to let that stop him.
Meg Griffin - is the daughter of the family, and seems to be disliked by everyone, because they think that she is ugly. they refuse to acknowledge her. Meg dreams of being popular, passing her driving test and of another family.
Chris Griffin - is the elder son of the family, who loves food but has roughly the IQ of a dingbat. He is quite loveable though.
Brian Griffin - is a talking dog, who offers the family advice - but they do not take it . Brian loves a martini or two, and a smoke. He also outwits Stewie.
The pilot episode - called 'Death has a shadow', is very good, as it sets up all the characters. Peter who drinks 37 beers in one night, is fired at work, and gains unemployment benefit for $150 a week, but actually gets $150,000. so instead of telling the benefit office, he spends it all as fast as possible. The episode also shows Stewie, taking 3 shots at killing his mum, by means of firing a laser beam, tampering with a chair leg, and firing poisoned arrows at her.
One of the best episodes on season 1, is 'If I'm dying I'm lying', where Peter tells a charitable organisation that his son Chris is dying, in order to get a tv show back on television.
this series is well worth watching.

funny and offensive comedyBy cheesekake (1501 reviews) from uk , 20 Mar 2012love this family and series, it's the sort of series that can get away with anything, and usually does, sometimes I sit and wonder how they do get away with it but they do
defo one for anyone who isn't easily offended
Just my kind of humourBy cfh87 (25 reviews) , 19 Oct 2011Marmite; love it or hate it. I'm a lover! A striking but funny take on the family life of Peter Griffin; the characters have contrasting morals and form part of a seemingly disfunctional family, yet they seem to get along just fine. Each episode has a unique theme, keeping the viewer guessing and laughing throughout the enitre series. A good starting point for a great program.
very goodBy smokeychops (670 reviews) from newcastle under lyme , 26 May 2011I'm quite a late fan of this series , i've been watching the newest ones on tv. So thought i would start at the begining. I enjoyed this series 1 . i'm quite surprised how the voices have changed, the mum and oldest son are now bit different in the newest series. Worth watching.
the griffinsBy briggs328 (7 reviews) from portsmouth , 06 Feb 2011i thought this was very funny with the dog being cynical and the baby wanting to kill his mother the plot changes each time well worth watching
