Ireland, 1892, and Joseph Donelly's father is shot while protesting high rents. Young Joseph (Tom Cruise) is determined to take his revenge and sets out to kill the local landlord, only to have his plan foiled when he is caught by the landlord's daughter Shannon (Nicole Kidman). She is preparing to run away to America and Joseph, who knows an opportunity when he sees one, decides to tag along as her servant. When the pair arrive in the New World, Shannon experiences a poverty she never knew existed, and Joseph attempts to make his fortune by getting involved in the world of bare-knuckle boxing. Things are not going well for either of them, but the chance of better future still beckons, and they head out west, aiming to stake their claim in the wide open spaces of Oklahoma.

Is it a Film you're looking for Joseph?

Watched this ages ago but only recently on dvd. What can I say-good good film. Nicole is believable. Tom is not bad-the accents in my opinon are good. The plot is a typical epic romantic historical film-as dad puts it 'its Titanic if the iceberg hadn't hit'

Give this film a try-its worth it. The scenery in Ireland is well shot and the soundtrack fits the scenes and story in a complimentary way.

No complaints-at all. Good film-if you enjoyed films like Titanic, Ned Kelly and gritty westerns-then give this a try as it combines the best elements of these films.

Young Tom is seeexxyyy

The movie is ok. I'm not sure about Nicole & Tom irish accent but they are good actors even though Nicole is quite annoying at times. Good and Tom Cruise was quite cute when he was younger.

Don't be put off

Don't be put off by how old this film is or its background, it is actually very enjoyable. The chemistry between Tom and Nicole adds to the film. It is a beautiful story which I was glad to have watched even though I was a little skeptical at the beginning. Watch it, you won't regret it!

Away me boyos !

Though old-fashioned in its way, there are some excellent scenes overall and between Tom Cruse and Nichole Kidman. Very realistically conveys conditions of opulence and degradation in equal measure with a little silt blood. An excellent support cast which makes this a good family drama.
