Goodness me.... I really really tried since I like Till Schweiger. I could only hold on to about 30 minutes though. This film is so bad, I just couldn't believe what I saw. The acting is bleak, the writing is cheesy and the action scenes just look silly. Uwe Boll should find another profession. Film making should be reserved to those who know how to make a film to spare us from watching dreadful rubbish like this pile of crap.

If your into FPS games then you will probably like this film. It shares the low concern for continuity and blatent disregard for common sense as most FPS games. As a film Its pretty poor even if it do's have alot of easily recognised actors. I found it outright childish in parts and dumb stupid in others.

  • A Far Cry from quality, or is it?

Don't watch this expecting anything resembling the game or Oscar winning performances. You get what you pay for with Boll, it's cheesy B movie action with a couple of knowing laughs chucked in for good measure. If they'd cast Danny Dyer it would have been 100 times worse so be thankful for what you get, an action movie that knows it's limitations.

Theres one real inherent problem with this film.

Its not the action, thats mediocre,

its not the comedy (although it is a bit forced and awkward)

its not even the lack of any real sense in the plot.

It is of course the title. 'Far Cry' anyone who has heard of the game will instantly think ahh this must be a film about that...

Those that might not have heard of the game but do a small bit of research will also come to that conclusion...

And thats the real problem, like most game-film movies this just doesnt hit all the buttons. But thats because of the stigma that comes with films named after/based on games.

If this film was titled 'Military Island' or 'Hugo Stiglitz from Inglorious Basterds does a film to show he has action in his blood' then you'd know what to expect and maybe enjoy the film slightly, as it does have some good choreographed scenes but its not. its called 'Far Cry' and well suffers as a result.

However what you get is this instantly raised expectation and are left wanting more, or not understanding how they didnt do more with what they had.

Overall the film is a mediocre action film. Whilst not awful its not very good either. It falls into the pit-hole of 'an explosion for explosion sake' and generic baddie fights etc...

No real originality and it suffers for this. Solid acting, with forced & awkward attempts at comedy, just make this a shell of the film it should have been.

It's worth a watch if you want to kill some time, but not if you want to take it as a serious film.

    1/5 stars in my opinion.
