The Coens at the top of their game
By David Gray from Clackmannanshire, Scotland , 24 Feb 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Fargo represents The Coen Brothers at the very pinnacle of their creatrive genius. Combining an interesting plot with black comedy and characters you cannot help but engage with, Fargo is a film that you will remember for a LONG time.
The story is supposedly 'base on actual events' tht took place in 1988, but it is really nothing more than your typical kidnap gone wrong. What makes is so much better than any other film like this, is the way the Coens inject their own brand of humour throughout as well as giving the story a couple of unique twists.
William H Macy is simply brilliant as the car salesman put under pressure to recoup the money he has stolen from his work, and Steve Buscemi steals the whole film as part of the hapless duo who agree to kidnap his wife for ransom.
Frances Mcdormand does a great job as the sheriff of the small town of Fargo, but her relationship with her husband is not what you would call typical...
If you haven't seen Fargo yet, you absolutely must rent this now. If you have, then you already know why this film is definitely one to catch again.- Was this review helpful to you?

(373)I just don't get the hype
By a customer , 26 Apr 2013There maybe some arty farty film critic added quality to this film but I cannot see it. How did it win Oscars? It must have been a slow year. The characters are just annoying, not to0 mention the ridiculous accents. This film is slow, you don't care for the characters in the film or what happens to them. I didn't even bother finish to watch as I was beyond bored.- Was this review helpful to you?

That Accent!
By AlexBaird27 (4 reviews) , 23 Mar 2013Best Coen Brothers film by a mile, a pretty standard story but great characters and full of humour. Memorable accents and fantastic performances from Macy, McDormand and Buscemi too.- Was this review helpful to you?

This film should go far.
By Bobsview (549 reviews) from Gloucestershire , 06 Mar 2013A great thriller with some memorable performances-who can forget the female lead detective in the frozen wastes of Minnesota. Faultless. Thoroughly recommended.- Was this review helpful to you?

fargo means great
By lukasz84 (75 reviews) , 26 Feb 2013black humour and violent crime have been twinned together before. but black humour and ultra violence in a sleepy, all snow-white and pristine mienesota, mixed with the ultimate innocence, straight forwardness and unspoilt charm of francis mcdormand- the heavily pregnant, all eating, loving crime solver makes for a brilliant spark. the humour is top class, supported by assured writing and underrated, joyful acting. excellent film.- Was this review helpful to you?
