Best SF ever, needs to be watched more than once. Great chemistry between cast members, well acted, script is razor-sharp and funny (great one-liners), stylish settings and terrific SFX. Plus the female characters are strong, self-defined women and not just arm-candy, quite a change. Tongue-in-cheek references to other iconic series abound, so pay attention! And prepare to be addicted...
The concepts, characters and storyline are colourful and imaginative. In developing the characters, the writers have tried to stay faithful to the quirky personalities of the main characters: Crichton - annoyingly sarcastic and patronising, Rygel selfish but thick and Chiana - the gutter slut. Their imperfections suspend disbelief just a tad but the OTT alien makeup and the sometimes psychotic storyline dont help. They also seem to have borrowed heavily from other popular sci-fi shows. Unlike many other shows however, there is the remote feeling that some characters could actually get killed off at any moment well, not Crichton, Aeryn, Moya and Pilot, obviously. The FX have notched up a gear in Series 3 someone decided it was worth greater investment (although the show has now had its plug pulled). Despite the flaws, Im riveted. Cant wait for the next DVD to come through the post.
