Fatal Love Details

Based on the true story of Alison Gertz, a white upper-middle-class girl who has only a handful of sexual partners prior to discovering she's HIV-positive, this hard-hitting drama features a compellingly strong performance from Molly Ringwald, an actress whose career started with a bang in the early eighties in all those brat-pack movies, but who subsequently struggled to find good adult roles. The problem here is not the usual “drowning in a sea of tears” scenario, but the rather overt and simplistic way that the movie suggests there are “nice girls” like Gertz who don't deserve Aids and the “other sort” who somehow do.
