Although desperate to find the cure for a plague epidemic, Faust is tricked by the devil into giving his soul for the pursuit of former youthhood which has tragic outcomes for third parties. The monochromaticism and special camera effects well evoke a medieval era and the film has atmosphere and a strong inexorable plot. The facial expressions are most theatricaly done but can be readily accepted in this genre without detriment to the sincerity of the storyline. A great film, powerful and intense.
