Would you trust Mark Wahlberg with your 16-year-old daughter? Of course you wouldn't! But when the Walker family first meet her latest date, they think he's a saint with a great body. Alas, he soon turns into the Boyfriend from Hell in director James Foley's tautly constructed, albeit predictable thriller. The plot may be contrived and derivative (there are similarities to Single White Female and Fatal Attraction), yet Foley adds a few more complexities than usual, while an excellent cast (headed by William Petersen as the concerned father) brings credibility to the relationships in crisis.
"...Stylishly crafted....[With] elegant and efficient direction....[Witherspoon] inhabits the central role with such charming ease and credibility that young women will readily identify with her..."
If you want to see why Reese Witherspoon is the highest paid actress in Hollywood, watch this film, not Legally Blonde 2
Reese was far greater in her earlier, riskier films, than in the current "cashing in phase" she now deservingly finds her self in. When the plot calls for it Reese is screen dynamite, as is Mark Whalberg who is now cashin in with shallow epic remakes like Planet of the Apes. This film has a great plot, great actors and a great climax. A little more characterisation for Mark's character would not have gone a miss, otherwise its a real thumbs up release.
Films were far easier to believe 9 years ago when this was made, before mobile phones took off and ruined every "trapped" plot scenario.
"Fear" is a teen thriller with no intentions others than entertain the audience and show good looking teen stars like Mark Wahlberg, Reese Whiterspoon, and the always lovely Alyssa Milano.
This is not a good movie by any means but it has positive things to underline. First, Wahlberg and Whiterspoon can act and their performances are the best thing about the movie. Milano is a delight to watch even that she's not very required in the movie but still shines in the few minutes she appears.
Second and best of all; "Fear" goes directly to the point and makes it very easy to watch.
Fans of Mark Wahlberg may be interested to cast their eyes on the trailer for his forthcoming film, a thriller entitled Shooter. Now online, the teaser features footage of Wahlberg and co-star Danny Glover and hints at the film's action-based plot which sees the main character framed for a murder he didn't commit. While it is Wahlberg's most recent foray into action films, he recently starred in The Departed, which included its fair share of violence. After following his brother, Donnie... Read more
