TRADITION!
By MrJuggles from Nottinghamshire , 30 Jun 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Aaah, there's nothing like watching a resounding epic like this. Musicals are fun anyway, especially if they are done well within the genre they are placed. So when a producer can pull off a well balanced, drama laden film based around the errosian of religion, belifs and tradition and make it into a musical to boot, you have to take your hat off to him.
See a fresh faced Paul Michael Glaser as one of the daughters love interest.
This is a heavy, lengthy, and very memorable musical that I think everyone needs to watch, at least once.- Was this review helpful to you?

(33)Good fun, good laughs
By Cls14 (6 reviews) , 13 May 2013I watched this with my grandma, on her advise, thinking I'd have to be polite. However it was entertaining, toe-tapping and in some places eye-wateringly funny. I am not a fan of the musical genre as a rule, I can count the ones I'd watch again on one hand, but this is up with them.- Was this review helpful to you?

One of the great classic musicals of all time
By oldtimerfilmbuff (17 reviews) , 25 Jan 2012A one off great movie I hope nobody tries to do a remake in the future. It won`t work. There is only one Topol. Five stars.- Was this review helpful to you?

A celebration of racism
By BigMeUp (281 reviews) from Midlands, UK , 22 Apr 2010Some lovely songs; a life fable told at a leisurely - but acceptably fulfilling - pace; great acting ... these would normally make for a wonderful film, except that in this case we are being asked to accept Reb Tevye's final position, that marriage to a non-Jew is an abomination which cannot be tolerated.
Kinda racist, isn't it?- Was this review helpful to you?
