Canadian atomic experiments cause human thoughts to transform into brain-sucking creatures in a grisly little 1950s number featuring unusually graphic special effects for the period. Arthur Crabtree's Quatermass-style shocker starts off pretty ordinarily but, once the flying spinal cords whip into throat-choking action, the screams you hear may well be your own! British to the core, despite the pseudo-American trappings and fading Hollywood actor Marshall Thompson taking centre stage.

    fiend without a face

The fiends are remarkably similar to the alien face huggers that hit our screens 20 years later, so the makers of this film deserve some credit for their imagination. The film builds up nicely with some genuinely chilling moments if not edge of seat they do keep you interested. As with most of these films and most of my reviews, If you like the genre you will like the film.
