"...De Niro is utterly in his element here as a self-assured, celebrated Gothamite....[Roden] makes Emil into a scarily gleeful, quick-witted sociopath....[Theron provides] a bright cameo..."
"...[The film] has a crowd-stopping impact....It's exhilarating to watch Mr. De Niro in 15 MINUTES, exulting in his pallor and workingman's verve....Mr. Herzfeld works with zest..."
The concept of this is movie is actually quite good, the plot whilst a touch far fetched is also not bad at all. The trouble being is that De Niro is so compelling to watch you cannot help but feel empathy with him, Burns however is so wooden I felt more annoyed at his prissy attitudes. If they had cast a more accessible character is Burns's role it would have came across better. Thus (for me) the media hungry De Niro was the character I got behind which I am sure was not the direction the movie was meant to take.
The movie is quite good, and in the final third Burns seems to shake off the single speaking tone he normally adopts and shows some emotion. As there are various twists and turns it would callous to mention too much but these are handled well.
Grammar is superb as the slimeball.
Only reasonable for spending two hours if you're very bored. It's a comedy-thriller, a genre which rarely works - as usual, the comedy isn't amusing and removes the suspense.
