Tip Top FilmBy mcgoolagong (15 reviews) from Hamilton , 05 Nov 2012This movie was rejected by the main character and writer of the book (Martin McGartland) on which it was loosely based, as fantasy. Only he would really know I suppose. However, I thought it was a cracking film which took you along at a quick pace through the high wire act demanded of a British Army informer living in Republican Belfast. McGartland gets a very sympathetic portrayal as a charasmatic charmer trying to do the right thing by his own moral standards. One minor criticism would be the (father / son) relationship he develops with his handler takes quite a bit of believing as does his meteoric rise up the IRA ranks and everyone's apparent willingness to trust him. Ben Kingsley (for me) was brilliant as his handler, all pragmatism and honesty with a determination to avoid the politics of his situation. Great supporting performances from other cast too and a very believable look to 1980's Belfast.
Superb Slice of RealityBy Zydor (268 reviews) from Headley Down , 26 Oct 2012Outstanding, and very-very realistically portrayed as to how these things are dealt with in reality. All in All a brilliant job by the Production Team, someone somewhere has done some very good background research to get this one played out so close to how the real events went down.
If you want to get a real flavour of the murky world of the Security Services, look no further and watch this one carefully. To take out murderous thugs, the rulebook sometimes has to be thrown away, this guy did and payed the price.
Just say a silent prayer of thanks that people like him do the job they do. A brilliant, briliant film that is very uncomfortably close to how real events go down. Kudos to the Production Team and Cast.
EVERYONE SHOULD WATCHBy a customer , 25 Oct 2012EXCELLENT FILM.........WELL WORTH A WATCH......THOUGHT PROVOKING.........SOOO GLAD THAT THINGS HAVE CHANGED A LOT SINCE THEN, ESPECIALLY RELEVANT SINCE LIVING IN BELFAST
