Disappointing

Probably seemed a clever idea at the time. A bunch of luvvies making an 'experimental' film about making a film about watching a film of sorts - all too self-consciously pretentious for my taste. Not terribly well acted: in contrast to one reviewer, I didn't think Sadie Frost did too badly, but Jude Law I found painful in this, and even Ray Winstone was rather unconvincing outside his almost trademark effing and blinding outbursts - in fact most of better acting came from the lesser-known players. One reviewer remarks that if you liked 'Abigail's Party' you may well like this. Hmm. There is some similarity - 'Abigail's Party' was brilliantly written and performed, and at times an excruciatingly funny piece; this film, however, was mostly just excruciating. OK, it's not out and out tosh, but really, I wouldn't bother.
