These men wanted revenge and boy did they get it! Great Stuff
By RedValleyJohn (136 reviews) from Biggleswade , 12 Jun 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
When i was growing up , the West Indies were the greatest cricket team in the world. I remember the great Viv Richards smacking the ball all over the place and the ' Blackwash' tour of 1985 when The West Indies thrashed us 5-0 but i wasn't aware of the history of what happened years before then.
Fire in Babylon is a fantastic documentary film that charts the history of how and why these fantastic sportsman remain legends in West Indian sporting and cultural history.
This is the story told from the point of view of the players and some West Indian musicians and famous personalities.
It's a mixture if interviews interspersed with some fantastic old footage.
These men had a grudge and not just a cricket grudge. They wanted revenge for history and i don't think the English realised it - in fact i know we didn't.
A group of people like these come along once in a lifetime and 'Fire In Babylon' documents what they did perfectly.
Great Stuff.- Was this review helpful to you?

By customer (22 reviews) from London , 19 May 2013One of the most inspirational and informative documentaries I have seen for a long while. Excellent documentary in every way. It left me with a positive vibe and you don't have to be a cricket fan to enjoy this documentary. I was enthralled throughout.- Was this review helpful to you?

Superb insightful documentary
By BenLaw (32 reviews) , 22 Jan 2013This may prove a struggle if you have no interest in cricket, but if you have even a little interest or knowledge this is fascinating and gripping. It is particularly interesting to hear from the main protagonists in their own words. We hear quite a lot from Holding and Richards, but getting the views of Croft, Roberts and Lloyd is really special. This also serves as a fascinating social documentary, giving a great insight into why, in both cricketing and cultural terms, the Windies played cricket as they did for these two decades. There's a lot of great reggae music and interesting thoughts from musicians and Caribbean commentators. The extras on this blu ray disc are also superb, some really interesting insights from Boycott, Gower, Lamb, Imran Khan and Dickie Bird on playing the Windies pace attack, and an interesting alternative perspective on the brutal fast bowling, amongst others. The only two things I wished for at the end were (i) more footage of the cricket (although there probably isn't a great deal surviving) and (ii) that the film was a bit longer, giving us some more info on the Richards years and at least a mention for Ambrose and Walsh. These two small complaints apart, this is an excellent documentary film.- Was this review helpful to you?

A golden duck

Interesting to hear old cricket players reminiscing about the 'not so good' old days of cricket.- Was this review helpful to you?

Serious and Fun cricket doc
By a customer , 22 Aug 2012I loved watching this - in my first incantation, the cricket fan who grew up in the 70s watching these events first time around. It puts the cricket into its rightful social contest, but never ignores the sport...and to hear the truly great man that is Viv Richards talk at length and with such acute insight is always a pleasure. Even if you don't like cricket on the village green...this is something very very different, and needs to be watched!- Was this review helpful to you?
