I would have to say that I thought I knew what this film would be about, but it wasn't like that. There were amusing moments, which were bordering on shocking, such as the masturbating 'man servant', who sneakingly watches porn, while the elderly, frail matriarch of the family dozes or stares fixedly into the middle distance - or so he thinks!!
The film overall may not break artistic/creative boundaries in the West - where such film as Steven Freares(?) brought the aspirational middle class 'Asian' family to the fore in the 1980's, in his fascinating film 'My Beautiful Launderette'
However the relationship between the two sister in laws is very tender, tentative, subtle and ultimately supportive, and life affirming, and yes the 'women kissing' scenes would pique people's interest - but more importantly than that it was the non gratuitous way in which it was handled that allowed one to cheer on their right to live their lives as they saw fit towards the end of the film. .
