  • A future that isn't shiny

Forget about phasers, light sabers, and doors that go 'Swoosh' - the world of Firefly is far from perfect.

In a future where technology is horded by those with power the different settings are as varied as they are spectacular. From the technology rich core planets, to the edges of colonised space where a fast set of wheels is a horse and cart.

The crew of Serenity comprises an array of characters from mercenary to diplomat, mechanic to preacher, each bringing a vital element to the success of the series. Firefly provides a welcome breath of fresh air into the space genre providing a series set in a universe we can all relate to - where people make the best of what they've got.

Joss Whedon has produced a remarkable series here, taking the best elements of his work on Buffy and Angel to produce this cult classic. This is a truly magnificent series that will leave you desperately wanting more and wondering why on earth was it cancelled by its US producers after such a short run?

After reading a few reviews, and after hearing just how good this series was,i decided to rent. I got as far as the first 2 episodes befire switching off. Very dull,2 dimensional characters, its just trying to be clever,by setting the wild west in a sci-fi world - and fails miserably. I really dont see what people see in this.

  • Fantastically underwhelming

Meant to be SciFi, It's not. It is wild west with the odd bit of future tech thrown in. Watched the first 7 episodes and became more frustrated each moment that nothing interesting was happening. Makes the Lone Ranger look sophisticated. My theory is that if the producers need to rely on fantastically beautiful women to make the program visually appealing then the plot must be pretty thin- They are, and it's gossamer.

  • Cheesy, crude, with low low production values

I have been looking for an exciting series as a cross-trainer work-out aid, following the excellent Battlestar Galactica. The reviews of this were pretty good, and so I thought it was worth a try. Kept with it for 4 episodes, but with decreasing exercise energy levels, decided it was time to knock it on the head, as it was not improving. Rather it seemed to be consolidating a simplistic, predictable and thoroughly cheesy style. The characters remain relentlessly two-dimensional, the humour obvious, and the production values closer to Flash Gordon than Battlestar Galactica. In fact it would pass as a somewhat crude children`s series, if it weren`t for the occasional casual violence, with very amateurishly choreographed fight scenes. The good guys are always handsome, and the bad guys always ugly, or with British accents, or both. Morally complex it ain`t. Very disappointing, so the search continues.......

i skipped the series initially because it looked a bit lame by sci fi standards, but the spin off movie looked good...watched it,loved it and wanted to know how it all began....

bought the firefly boxset and because i was already familiar with the characters and general story made the series fantastic...and made my second viewing of serenity even better!

    must see sci fi

I have a real soft spot for this series. I was really impressed the way they moulded sci-fi and western together and the chemistry between the characters was impressive.

My two favourite genres all in one and you can just tell that the actors had so much fun filming this.

If you have never watched Firefly then I recommend you don't, because you will only end up like the rest of us and hating the people responsible for this show being cancelled!
