An Empowering Movie
By a customer from An American in England , 24 Sep 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
This movie will stimulate your thinking and maybe give you some insight into how the medical profession operates. It
seeks to give a snapshot view of one family's plight as one member's health deteroiates, and the havoc that is caused because of it. It also shows the medical profession for what it is, and that it doesn't know everything about every disease. Strong performaces are given by a young Allison Janney, and of course Streep. Worth watching.- Was this review helpful to you?

(5)Fantastic Film
By a customer from Rugby , 24 Apr 2010I was recommended this by a friend. It is a fantastic film. I am studying to be a learning disability nurse at the moment and found this to be both informative and interesting to watch. I have since bought the film and all my friends want to watch it :)- Was this review helpful to you?

Please don't watch this movie
By bibbbles (1 review) from Ely , 20 Aug 2009My daughter has drug resistant epilepsy and has been referred onto the ketogenic diet We were told by specialists to watch this movie... All i can say is that watching it is was like watching our daughter going through it all again. My husband and I took turns crying and being traumatised watching a family going through pretty much what we had and it was very painful.
I appreciate there was a positive outcome but not before almost 1h30 mins of emotional turmoil.
Maybe if you are watching without any emotional interest it is a very good movie but other that, stay away!...sorry Meryl !
p.s the little boy was a phenomenal actor- Was this review helpful to you?

By a customer from EXETER , 02 Jul 2008Not what I hoped for in afilm starring Meryl Streep. Based on fact and an admirable subject but somehow missed its mark with me and I was not touched by this film at all.- Was this review helpful to you?

Lorenzo's Oil 2
By RJNeb2 (922 reviews) from London , 01 Oct 2005Featuring another typically indefatigable performance from Streep, it's a shame that 'Lorenzo's Oil' beat this heartfelt exercise to the punch, for its true tale of parents finding a cure for their ailing child when medical science couldn't is almost exactly the same. This one does tread a little too much in TVM Disease of the Week land, but Streep at least roots it in reality. A labour of love for director Abrahams whose own son (who features in a bit part) also suffered from the severe epilepsy that befalls young Adkins in this movie.- Was this review helpful to you?
