Harryhausen in space...

An utterly charming romp involving Victorian gentlemen scientists travelling to the moon and engaging with the insect-like Selenites. Both these and the monstrous moon cows were animated using Harryhausen's stop-go animation methods, although in some scenes the Selenites played by characters using 'suitimation' techniques. Loosely based on H.G. Well's book and with mild comic relief provided by Lionel Jeffries, the film's transfer to DVD is bright and colourful although I was disappointed with the extras, as they consist of the Harryhausen Chronicles and a Dynamation feature which appear on other DVDs - I would have liked a featurette on the film itself. This was Harryhausen's only second outing in a 'space' film, if you count 'Earth vs the Flying Saucers' as the first.- Was this review helpful to you?

Prefer the original book version.
Got this after seeing the recent TV adaptation.
Have to say this is the better story.

This week the team have to build a space craft capable of going to the moon & back using special paint that repels gravity and parts found in the Victorian train scrap yard.
If your a fan of 'the time machine' & 'Jason and the Argonauts' then you will love this a film you can enjoy with your children.
**BUT REMEMBER** this is a sci-fi movie **NOT** a documentary…!!!
